The Boys Brigade Badge programme
comprises areas known as
Discover For P7 - S3 Boys
Challenge Plus For S4 - S6
The President's Badge is awarded to those Boys who are normally in the S5 age group and who have completed the Discovery Course and are recommended by the Company Captain
The Queen's Badge is the highest award available in the Boys' Brigade and can be gained in S6 subject to qualification and recommendation by the Company Captain
The Discover Badge Programme has three main zones COMMUNITY, RECREATION and SKILLS. These zones are broken down further into the areas listed below
Boys who successfully complete the required number of activites will be awarded the corresponding badge
The standards contained within the current Badge programmes will ensure the Boys' Brigade will continue to assist young boys to develop into young men who are clear leaders. Businesses now recognise the tie up with the the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and the benefit of the many practical aspects of the programme; below is an idea of how it works

This zone gives the opportunity to learn about and make a difference to the world around us. This introduces the sub-zones

There are two further zones entitled Christian Faith and Extras which complement the three programme zones and provide additional material for devotions, themed evenings and lots more.
The Compass Badge is awarded to new recruits who have successfully completed 6 activities split equally between Community, Recreation and Skills. This is generally awarded after 5 or 6 weeks.
Community Stage 1 Badges are awarded to Boys in P7 who successfully complete a minimum of 7 activities from the Community zone
Recreation Stage 1 Badges are awarded to Boys in P7 who successfully complete a minimum of 10 activities from the Recreation zone
Skills Stage 1 Badges are awarded to Boys in P7 who successfully complete a minimum of 10 activities from the Skills zone
Discover Badge is awarded to Boys in S1 who have completed at least 30 topics from the Company Section programme. They must also have gained Recreation, Skills and Community Badges in the past 12 months. The Boys should have taken part in a residential experience (eg camp, holiday, sleepover, midnight hike, crossover) and performed an active / visible role in a Company event, Battalion event, Church Service or event and maintained a good attendance record for one session
Community Stage 2 Badges are awarded to Boys in S1 who successfully complete a minimum of 7 activities from the Community zone
Recreation Stage 2 Badges are awarded to Boys in S1 who successfully complete a minimum of 10 activities from the Recreation zone
Skills Stage 2 Badges are awarded to Boys in S1 who successfully complete a minimum of 10 activities from the Skills zone
Community Stage 3 Badges are awarded to Boys in S2 who successfully complete a minimum of 7 activities from the Community zone
Recreation Stage 3 Badges are awarded to Boys in S2 who successfully complete a minimum of 10 activities from the Recreation zone
Skills Stage 3 Badges are awarded to Boys in S3 who successfully complete a minimum of 10 activities from the Skills zone
Community Stage 4 Badges are awarded to Boys in S3 who successfully complete a minimum of 7 activities from the Community zone
Recreation Stage 4 Badges are awarded to Boys in S3 who successfully complete a minimum of 10 activities from the Recreation zone
Skills Stage 4 Badges are awarded to Boys in S3 who successfully complete a minimum of 10 activities from the Skills zone
Once all 4 stages have been obtained Boys move on to the Challenge Plus Programme
All Brigade activities are underpinned by Christian Faith, and relevant Christian Faith topics and resources are provided in each of the activity groups
The Challenge Plus Programme is for Seniors. This requires each young man to undertake in-depth Projects and Challenge activities which they themselves choose and work on at their initiative, with assistance from the Leaders if they need it.
These are grouped into three zones:
Community Life Skills Recreation & Leisure
There are three levels of awards which require a number of points to achieve.
The Challenge Plus Bronze Award requires 10 points.
The Challenge Plus Silver Award requires 20 points.
The Challenge Plus Gold Award requires 30 points.
Seniors will be awarded 5 points for a successful Project and 1 point for a Challenge. In most cases the Seniors will set the target or objective for Projects and Challenges themselves.
