My name is Lorna and I am the youth worker at Orchardhill Church. We would like to say a big welcome to all the families starting P1 at Giffnock Primary. Orchardhill is a very community spirited church, with a great relationship with teachers and families at Giffnock Primary. We are committed to ensuring that children of all ages feel welcomed and included and we love their enthusiasm in learning about the Christian faith.
I am very much looking forward to meeting all the children – I love coming to visit them at the school. Most recently I have been in the nursery helping to plant vegetables and sunflowers. The children taught me a lot that I did not know!!
It is always great fun when the children get an outing to the church too. They are most welcome and I absolutely love hearing all their stories and questions. They are so enthusiastic to learn which is wonderful to see.
At Orchardhill Church there are many fun activities for children, who would all be made most welcome.
Primary school children meet on a Sunday morning for stories, songs, games and snacks. It is great fun and a lovely way to build new friendships. See if you can join us in making a loom band that goes right round the church!
Older children are also most welcome. If you are of high school age come and have a cuppa and a cake with us on a Sunday morning while chatting or quizzing. Our chats about wide and diverse subjects on a Sunday morning can range from very deep to hilarious!
You may have heard of our Huntly Hound club for primary school kids and CHIPS café for high school kids. These run for a week in August every year and have done for many, many years. The intended date this year is week commencing 3rd August. We cannot at the moment commit to how, or indeed if, these will go ahead however once we have any further information we will post this on the website. If you are starting P1 or are in primary the Huntly Hound club is the place to be each morning! If you are starting S1 or are in high school it would be fabulous to see you each evening.
We also have plans underway for a couple of new initiatives;
Messy Church is a brilliant way to bring families together, whilst crafting, playing games and having a meal. The high school kids have asked for a youth club and this will hopefully start up in the Autumn.
Watch our website for further details of these starting, once lockdown rules allow it.
We had also hoped to invite new parents to the church for coffee and cake on the first day of school – I know from experience that it is a “strange” day and it is nice to spend time with people who are feeling the same emotions. With the current restrictions we are not sure if this will be able to go ahead but we will keep you posted on this nearer the time. Again please check our website for details.
There are many other clubs and organisations which run from the church – they all would welcome anyone to join. The contact details for these are also on the website.
If you have any questions or ideas at all I would love to hear from you. My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org
Meantime enjoy the summer holidays - let’s hope the sun continues to shine!
