No personal or calendar references will appear on this page. If you register on this web site you will be given access to a closed area where such information will be stored.

The object of the Boys' Brigade was set by Sir William Smith, the founder, in 1883

"The advancement of Christ's Kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness."

It's as relevant today as it was then and a standard by which we encourage all Boys to achieve.

We are always delighted to welcome new members so come along and see why the Adventure begins here at the 86th. If you are a parent or adult who would like to help we would be delighted to hear from you.

The Junior Section meet on school Fridays and have  - 'a fun night for all'

All sections take part in District and Battalion events and competitions throughout the year.

If you are having a gloomy boring Friday Night and are a Boy in this age range living in Giffnock why not come along and see why the adventure begins at the 86th. Don't miss out - come along now and see for yourself!

What do they do?

Juniors have fun! Their meetings are crammed full of challenges, games and activities, usually ones that they themselves have suggested. There are hundreds of activities catering for just about every possible interest. At the same time we try to encourage them to explore other new interests. There is loads of variety and little chance of becoming bored!

The award programme is specifically designed to encourageBoys to look beyond themselves. Many are interested in one type of activity - perhaps sports, or natural history. The Junior Section programme provides for such interests and at the same time allows Boys to try others of a different type. This provides a balanced all round programme - which includes spiritual and social input, as well as physical and adventure activities in 5 different programme zones . . .

  • Body - fit for fun
  • Mind - think and do
  • Spirit - God and me
  • Community - me and my world
  • Creativity - make and do

    Juniors are about . . .
  • having fun
  • making friends
  • enjoying lots of activities
  • trying new things

Through the many different activities, Juniors will . . .

  • learn about themselves
  • get to know people and learn to work together
  • explore their community
  • personally develop
Why the Junior Section?

Juniors are developing rapidly. Between the ages of 8 and 11, there are big changes in a Boy's mental, emotional, social and physical development. However, all Boys are different and have a variety of needs. The relationships we form with Boys at this age can be important in assisting them to achieve a sound sense of personal and group identity.

What else do I need to know?

The Junior Section uniform consists in a blue polo shirt and a blue sweatshirt. School trousers socks and shoes complete the uniform.  We try where possible to recycle polo shirts and sweatshirts but you may prefer to get new supplies from either the local BB shop located at

Subscriptions

As you might expect as a charity we cannot exist without support.  Parents are asked to contribute by donating £50 for Anchor Boys, £50 for Junior Section , £60 for Company and Senior Section with reduced rates for more than one brother in the Company.

This amount is requested early in the session as in the main part it is used to pay the BB National and District Capitation fees. We provide an annual set of accounts and it can be seen over the last few years that despite prudent spending the subscriptions are not enough and do not provide extra for outings etc.

Parental assistance with transport  etc is greatly appreciated. We may have to seek further support financially for any outings planned outwith the Halls e.g swimming, sports etc.

HAVE YOU GOT WHAT IT TAKES TO HELP AT THE JUNIOR SECTION

As always we are on the lookout for full and part time leaders to augment our great team of leaders. Our leaders do a great job and  if you have been a member of the BB in the past or any other youth organisations you will no doubt recall the good experience that you had. No doubt your time there helped shape your life in some way.

When Sir William Smith founded the BB in 1883 he too had to ask for volunteers.  If those people had not felt the call none of the success of the BB worldwide and locally would have happened. Indeed if Lord Baden Powell had not helped at the BB he may never have felt like forming the Scouts!!

This is a call to YOU and if you feel challenged and would like to assist in any small way at the 86th BB we would be delighted to hear from you.

Remember you do not need any special training nor do you require to be specially skilled we just need your time and personality.

If you feel you could be tempted to come and help either for a number of weeks or longer  please email us at bb-at-orchardhill.org.uk.  (substitute -at- with @ This is to prevent spam) or simply come along to the Junior Section one night to see and hear the fun the Junior Section Boys are having.
